Product photography.
I used to think it was dull, bland, void of color, creation, interest. The list goes on and on. During this pandemic I’ve renewed a love for product photography. I realized it didn’t have to be boring. It didn’t have to be commercialized, and I certainly didn’t need all the “correct” equipment to produce pretty product photos.
When it comes to shooting products and food and beverage images, I realized that natural light is key. I generally position my subject near a large window in order to achieve even bright lighting. I sometimes use one filler light to avoid harsh shadows on the product, or to bring the product into a brighter light.
Something to mention about shadows: I generally shoot darker and more moody, but with some products I can’t do that per client request. Aside from that, I love incorporating shadows and darker tones into my images because I think it adds mystery and emotion to the image or product I am shooting.
